A NEW ENDOWMENT INITIATIVE BY OIA

“As a unique initiative undertaken by OIA, a charitable body under the name of “OIA Africa Health and Welfare Endowment” was registered in Africa earlier this year. The endowment has members both from the Ministry of Health, Govt. of Ethiopia and OIA. A first for Africa, this endowment is a stepping stone towards stronger public private partnership for the welfare of the people. “

The OIAAHWE held a Customer Contact Program across various public places in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The primary objective was to understand the medical needs & demands of the population. The Scope of the survey was to interview about 1700 individuals that were affected directly. They were asked inputs on customer loyalty program, services, amenities they would like to avail from the health care unit. The input received will help us to design a systematic plan of action, to ultimately reach the goal of fulfilling the need in serving the health care problem of the nation.

At 'OIAAHWE', our endeavor is to give citizens and fellow beings world class services at affordable cost, and this exercise of the Customer Contact Program has enabled us to successfully understand the scope of the project which is, offering holistic eye care centre as a gift to the African fraternity.

OIA EYE CARE CENTRE

OIA has commenced the building of the “OIA India Eye Care Centre” at the Zewditu Memorial Hospital Campus in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Centre will start its full-fledged operations by 2011 and plans to diagnose 100,000 patients and perform 10,000 sight restoring eye surgeries per year.

There is a severe shortage of health facilities and eye care specialists that offer medium to large scale services in the country. The Centre would also serve as a resource for strengthening the capacities of the existing specialized eye care centres. The OIA Centre will offer patients state of the art modern diagnostic and surgical services through its Outpatient departments, minor and major operation theaters, in-patient facilities and administrative offices.” It will also act as a training centre for local ophthalmologists and paramedics on various aspects on modern eye care. Going forward, the Centre plans to set up facilities in the field of Cataract, Refractive Error, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, Medical Retina and Cornea.
