The Indian Embassy in Ethiopia in association with the India Business Forum (IBF) organized a farewell function to bid adieu to Mr. Gurjit Singh, Ambassador of India to Ethiopia on 04 August 2009 at Hotel Sheraton, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Master of the Ceremony and IBF President, Mr. Mayur Kothari greeted the guests and highlighted Ambassador Gurjit Singh’s successful tenure in Ethiopia. He spoke about his assignments, projects, social service initiatives and his openness and availability to guide, help and advise the business community from either side.
Ambassador Gurjit Singh, who was emotional in his speech, thanked the Indian Embassy, IBF and OIA for putting up a spectacular show for his farewell. He had no hesitation in mentioning that his assignment in Ethiopia was one of his best assignments ever and he will always cherish this for the years to come.
Special Guest and keynote Speaker at the Event, OIA Chairman Ambassador V. B. Soni, in his speech, congratulated Ambassador Gurjit Singh for his exceptional work done for promoting trade and strengthening people-to-people ties between India and Ethiopia. Ambassador Soni highlighted the pro-active role Ambassador Gurjit Singh has been playing in promoting Indo-Ethiopian bilateral relations and the dynamism, commitment, dedication and passion he has shown in pushing these relations to the highest level possible. He also acknowledged and thanked Mrs. Neeru Singh, wife of Ambassador Gurjit Singh who, together with OIA, conceived and initiated OIA India Eye Care Centre, a specialty, state-of-the-art Eye Care Centre.
Mr. Soni further highlighted OIA’s projects in Ethiopia which included the successful completion of the Hageremariam-Mega-Bokulbuma Power Transmission/Distribution Lines, Sub-station Projects for the Ethiopian Electric and Power Corporation (EEPCo) and the recently launched Finchaa and Tendaho Sugar Projects.
The farewell function concluded with Ambassador Gurjit Singh releasing a book “60 years of Ethio-India Friendship”. |
